MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Week 5

In Week 5 of the 2015 season, Owatonna senior Sam Hylle established a new single-game school record with seven rushing touchdowns in the Huskies’ wild 77-41 victory over Austin on the road. Hylle — who finished with a staggering 320 rushing yards for the game — found the end zone on runs of 1, 5, 24, 56, 10, 6 and 7 yards and held the record by himself until Jason Williamson tied the mark with seven rushing scores against Rochester Century in 2017.

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Traveling to Northfield

At Northfield on Oct. 13, 2017, top-ranked Owatonna struggled to find offensive traction against the No. 5-ranked Raiders and lost 21-17 in a thrilling back-and-forth game that was decided late in the fourth quarter when Northfield’s Lars Prestemon hit Alex Rassmussen for an 11-yard touchdown with 18 seconds on the clock. The loss dropped the Huskies to 6-1, but would prove to be their only setback of the season as they would go on to win the Class 5A state championship and finish 12-1 overall. Northfield, meanwhile, clinched the Red Division title by beating Rochester Century the following week, but was eliminated by the Panthers exactly 10 days later in the Section 1-5A semifinals.

Entering Week 5 of the 2016 season, Owatonna was 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big Southeast Red Division. The Huskies were coming off a crucial 21-3 victory over No. 10-ranked Northfield and preparing to host Austin for the first of back-to-back home games.

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I 10 Years ago, after 4 games

Entering Week 5 of the 2011 season, Owatonna was 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big Nine Conference. The Huskies were coming off a 28-7 victory over Rochester Century in what was the Huskies’ third road game in four outings to start the season and was preparing to host rival Faribault (3-1, 2-1).

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Recent history tells us

In the last 15 years, Owatonna has played Northfield 10 times despite not becoming a part of the same conference/district until 2014. The Huskies lead the recent series 7-3, including a 2-1 edge in the postseason. OHS has won the last four and has out-scored the Raiders 105-0 in the last two outings. In the first game between the teams as Big Nine Conference foes — and, eventually, Big Southeast District counterparts — Northfield won 46-15 in Week 8 of 2014. The only other regular season victory for the Raiders in the stretch came in 2017 (see “Traveling the Northfield” portion above).
