MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Week 6

IN WEEK 6 OF THE 2013 SEASON, Owatonna rang up one of the wildest scoring barrages in program history. The Huskies tallied three touchdowns and forced a safety in less than six minutes against Albert Lea in a game that was called with 6 minutes, 7 seconds left in the first quarter due to repeated lightning strikes in the area. Aaron Peterson scored on a 67-yard run on the first snap of the game and Ty Sullivan blocked a punt on the ensuing Albert Lea possession that resulted in a safety at the 9:24-mark. Less than 20 seconds later, Peterson zipped into the end zone from 16 yards out and capped the scoring with a 1-yard TD plunge with 7:20 on the clock, giving OHS a 23-0 lead. The three scores gave Peterson eight touchdowns in a five-quarter stretch that also included the previous week against Austin. Against the Tigers, he finished with 93 yards on just four carries (23.2 YPC).

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Hosting the Rockets

AGAINST ROCHESTER JOHN MARSHALL ON THE ROAD ON AUGUST 28, 2015, Owatonna completed an exhilarating comeback against Rochester John Marshall on the road, erasing a two-touchdown third quarter deficit and winning 27-21 in double-overtime on the road. Moments after Alec Holcomb hauled in his second touchdown pass of the extra sessions, defensive back Blake Westphal clinched the victory by batting away a Rockets’ pass in the back of the end zone on fourth down. The Huskies trailed 14-0 at halftime, but made several key defensive adjustments against JM’s fleet-footed tailback, Cazz Martin, and strung together back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter to level the score. John Marshall’s only points after the break came on a 1-yard TD plunge in the first overtime to give the Rockets a temporary 21-14 lead.

ENTERING WEEK 6 OF THE 2017 SEASON, Owatonna was still undefeated at 5-0 and fresh off its second shutout of the season after routing Mankato East, 48-0, in the first of back-to-back home games in Week 5. At the time, the top-ranked Huskies were one of two undefeated teams in the Big Southeast District alongside No. 5-ranked Northfield. However, Owatonna was averaging nearly twice as many points per game (53.4 to 27.6) and was one of the Class 5A leaders in total defense, surrendering just 9.5 points per contest.

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I 10 Years ago, entering Week 6

ENTERING WEEK 6 OF THE 2012 SEASON, Owatonna was riding the buzz of an historic 44-41 victory over Faribault from the previous week that featured a comeback for the ages. Trailing by 34 points at halftime, the Huskies’ scored a touchdown on their opening drive of the third and added four more unanswered TDs over the next quarter-and-a-half of dizzying on-field action to and put Carter McCauley in position to drill a game-winning 28-yard field goal with 44 seconds on the clock. The thrilling finish kept Owatonna’s perfect record in-tact and represented the last time the Huskies would win by fewer than 21 points for the remainder of the regular season.
