MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Week 2

In Week 2 of the 2015 season, Owatonna completed an exhilarating comeback against Rochester John Marshall on the road, erasing a two-touchdown third quarter deficit and winning 27-21 in double-overtime on the road. Moments after Alec Holcomb hauled in his second touchdown pass of the extra sessions, defensive back Blake Westphal clinched the victory by batting away a Rockets’ pass in the back of the end zone on fourth down. The Huskies trailed 14-0 at halftime, but made several key defensive adjustments against JM’s fleet-footed tailback, Cazz Martin, and strung together back-to-back touchdowns in the third quarter to level the score. John Marshall’s only points after the break came on a 1-yard TD plunge in the first overtime to give the Rockets a temporary 21-14 lead.   

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I Traveling to Rochester Century

Playing at Rochester Century on Sept. 5, 2014, the Huskies extended the program’s winning streak to 15 consecutive games with a thrilling 40-37 victory. Playing in the same city and taking the field almost exactly a year to the date prior his eventual overtime heroics against John Marshall as a senior, then-junior Alec Holcomb manufactured a breakout performance for the ages, rushing for three touchdowns, catching the game-winning pass from Alex Emanuelson in overtime and contributing 173 yards of total offense (101 rushing, 72 passing). The OT theatrics were made possible by a blocked extra point with 15 seconds left in regulation that came directly after a Panthers’ touchdown that leveled the score, 34-34.  

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I 5 Years ago, entering Week 2

Entering Week 2 of the 2017 season, Owatonna was fresh off a 61-point outpouring in blowout of Faribault and preparing for the second of back-to-back home games to open the season against 0-1 Rochester Mayo. The Huskies’ high-flying effort against the Falcons was the foundational landmark of an historic offensive campaign that was bookended by a pair of season-best scoring efforts, the final explosion coming in a 63-27 victory in the state championship game over Elk River two-and-a-half months after Week 1. 

MEMORIES & MOMENTS I 10 Years ago, entering Week 2

Entering Week 2 of the 2012 season, Owatonna was heading into the second of consecutive home games to open the season, but unlike 2017, the Huskies’ season-opening contest was far more competitive. In fact, the 21-14 victory over Chanhassen would prove to be the fewest points Owatonna would score during its undefeated run through the regular season and represent the first of three OHS victories decided by a single possession all season.
